Shopmonkey is one of the most polished platforms in this category, and shops that use it tend to say so. It is also one of the more expensive ones once you add the pieces a small shop actually wants. That is most of this comparison in a sentence, but the details matter, because the right answer depends less on the feature lists than on how many cars you turn a week and whether your problem is writing tickets or filling the calendar.

The number that decides it for most small shops

Shopmonkey Basic is $239 a month, or $215 on an annual term, and it covers the shop floor well: estimates, invoices, two-way texting, calendar and reminders, integrated payments, parts lookup, and two digital inspection templates. What it does not cover is the customer-growth side. Online booking, review requests, and email and SMS campaigns live in the CRM Essentials add-on at $349 a month.

A Shopmonkey shop that wants online booking and review requests is looking at roughly $588 a month, or about $529 annually, plus the one-time $500 data migration fee. Getting Google review management inside the platform instead of as an add-on means the Genius tier at $499 a month. Eligant's top tier is $99 a month with booking, website, marketing, and review tools included.

That gap is the honest reason these two rarely belong to the same shop.

Where Shopmonkey genuinely wins

Digital vehicle inspections are the big one. Shopmonkey ships DVI today, on every plan, and unlimited inspections from Clever up. Eligant's inspection module is in development. If your service advisor sells work by texting a customer photos of a leaking axle seal, that is not a feature to wait on, and Shopmonkey is the right call.

It also beats Eligant on several things a growing shop notices: native iOS and Android apps, a built-in shop phone number with call forwarding, MOTOR labor data and ALLDATA integration on the higher tiers, more than thirty built-in reports, and three user licenses in the base plan where Eligant puts technician accounts on its $99 tier. With more than 8,000 shops on the platform, it has a support organization behind it — phone, live chat, and email at every tier — rather than a small team.

Where Eligant wins

Price is the obvious one, but the more useful framing is what the price includes. At $39 to $99 a month Eligant covers the whole day — booking, estimate, invoice, payment, follow-up — and bundles the things a small shop would otherwise buy as add-ons: a website, public online booking that feeds the calendar, SMS and email marketing, and Google review requests on the top tier. Nothing here is a $349 upcharge.

Two more differences matter in practice. The interface is fully bilingual English and Spanish across the whole application, which Shopmonkey does not offer at all. Being clear about Eligant's gaps

Digital inspections are in development. There is no native mobile app, no built-in phone number, and no labor guide or flat-rate job library. Parts catalog integration is narrower. It is a newer platform with a much smaller review base than Shopmonkey, support is a small team rather than a call center, and technician accounts require the $99 tier. If any of those are load-bearing for how your shop runs, Shopmonkey is the safer purchase.

Best for

Eligant is best suited for independent shops with 1-10 bays, owners who want an all-in-one platform under $100 a month, shops whose real bottleneck is car count rather than ticket workflow, and shops where the owner or front counter works in Spanish.

Shopmonkey is best suited for shops that need digital inspections working today, shops with multiple service writers who need several logins and a mobile app, shops that want deep parts and labor data at the counter, and owners who would rather pay more for a mature platform with a large support organization.

How to decide

Ask what you are actually short of. If you are short of process — tickets scattered, no history, no reminders — both platforms fix that, and the cheaper one fixes it for a tenth of the price. If you are short of cars, compare what each one costs with booking and marketing switched on, which is where the $99 and the $588 sit next to each other. And if you are short of a way to show customers what you found under the hood, Shopmonkey ships that today and Eligant does not yet.
